North America: Barley crop forecast unchanged at 10.36 mln tonnes for Canada and 3.8 mln for the US

Canadian barley production forecast for 2023 remains at 10.36 mln tonnes, the US at 3.8 mln, the same as crop 2022, RMI Analytics said in their late April report.

Moisture has improved in some key barley regions, and in some cases is delaying planting progress. For example, in the US, crop 2023 seeding is 1% complete vs. 8% long-term average.

The CMBTC recommendations for crop 2023 include the overall disease package for main varieties. Copeland, as an older variety, is becoming more susceptible to disease as compared to newer varieties.
